The experience
The day starts before the city wakes. Your driver picks you up from your hotel and takes you to Jaipur's flower market while vendors are still arranging marigolds, roses and jasmine in the lanes. You walk through the stalls at your own pace, talking to sellers and catching the rhythms of local life that most visitors miss. From there, the car becomes your base for the rest of the day. You move between stops on your schedule, not a group's timetable.
Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, is the first major stop: the five-story pink sandstone structure with its 953 small latticed windows built so the royal household could watch the city without being seen. You'll see Jantar Mantar next, the collection of nineteen stone astronomical instruments built by Maharaja Jai Singh in the 18th century. It holds the world's largest stone sundial and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. City Palace stands nearby, still partly home to the royal family, blending Mughal and Rajasthani architecture in the heart of the old city.
The afternoon takes you to Amer Fort, the hilltop fortress overlooking Jaipur that was built in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh I. On the way, you'll pass Jal Mahal, the five-story water palace in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, and stop at Panna Meena Ka Kund, the 16th-century stepwell that descends 200 feet with 1,800 symmetrical steps: a working example of how ancient Indian architects solved water storage and created gathering spaces at once. Royal Gaitor, the 18th-century cenotaphs with intricate wall carvings and temples, rounds out the route. Your driver handles the navigation and parking. You decide how long to linger at each site.

Is this one for you?Choose the car-and-driver option alone if you want to move through Jaipur's main sites without a fixed schedule or group pace, and you're comfortable exploring on your own or reading about each place as you go. Add the guide if you want the history and context explained at each stop, or add entry tickets if you'd rather not buy them individually at each monument.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, French and German.
Can I hire a guide to explain what I'm seeing at each stop?
Yes. A licensed guide in English, French or German is available as an add-on at checkout. The guide joins you in the car and walks the sites with you. Without the guide option, you explore on your own or use the descriptions provided.
Does the tour include entry tickets to the monuments?
Entry tickets are not included in the base car-and-driver option. You can add skip-the-line tickets for all the monuments at checkout, or buy them at each site as you arrive. The driver knows where to buy them and can help with the process.
What is Jantar Mantar and why is it worth the stop?
Jantar Mantar is a collection of nineteen stone astronomical instruments built in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh, who was also an astronomer. It contains the world's largest stone sundial and is one of the oldest observatories still in use. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest stone astronomical observatory in the world.
How deep is Panna Meena Ka Kund, and can I go down into it?
Panna Meena Ka Kund is a stepwell built in the 16th century that descends 200 feet with 1,800 perfectly symmetrical steps. Visitors can walk down into the well to see the architecture and the water at the bottom. The steps are steep and narrow, so wear comfortable shoes.
What time does the flower market stop being worth visiting?
The flower market is most active in the early morning when vendors are setting up and the lanes are full of local activity. The tour starts early to catch this. By mid-morning, much of the energy has moved on to the rest of the day's business.
