You start at the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib), the holiest shrine in Sikhism, built in the 16th century by Guru Arjan. The main structure sits surrounded by the Amrit Sarovar, a sacred pool, and the glistening golden facade is visible from the moment you arrive. Devotees and visitors move through the complex year-round; the spiritual weight of the place is immediate and physical.

From there, the itinerary moves to Jallianwala Bagh, a walled garden in the city center that marks the site of a massacre on April 13, 1919. During the British colonial era, soldiers opened fire on an unarmed crowd protesting the Rowlatt Act. The garden now holds the Flame of Liberty monument and a museum with artifacts from that period and India's independence movement. It is a somber, necessary stop. If time allows, you can also visit Gobindgarh Fort, a 43-acre heritage site spanning 263 years of Punjab's history—from the Bhangi Misl through Maharaja Ranjit Singh to the British East India Company. Entry to the fort is not included in the tour price and costs extra.

The day ends at the Attari-Wagah Border, an army outpost between Amritsar and Lahore where the evening "Beating the Retreat" ceremony takes place. Soldiers from India and Pakistan march in coordinated drill, lowering their flags as the sun sets. The display is theatrical and patriotic—nationalistic fervor rises as lights switch on and the crowd applauds. You watch from the stands; the ceremony lasts roughly an hour. The car is air-conditioned throughout, and lunch at a local restaurant is included. The tour covers roughly 80 to 85 kilometers; any distance beyond that incurs an extra charge.
