The experience
The day starts at the Golden Temple, where thousands of pilgrims come daily to pray at one of Sikhism's holiest shrines. From there you move to Jallianwala Bagh, the walled garden where British forces opened fire on a crowd in 1919. Bullet marks still scar the walls. The Partition Museum sits next, documenting the stories and documents of India's 1947 division. Mid-morning brings Durgiana Temple, a Hindu shrine dedicated to the goddess Durga, with murtis of Lakshmi and Vishnu also housed inside.
The afternoon centers on the Wagah Border, where Indian and Pakistani soldiers conduct a flag-lowering ceremony each evening. Soldiers from both sides perform the ritual in full view of spectators gathered in stands on either side of the border. This is the day's focal point and the reason many travelers book the tour.
Your vehicle choice determines capacity: a Tempo Traveller seats 11 passengers plus the driver, an Innova Crysta holds 6 plus driver, or a Sedan Car fits 4 plus driver. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. Bottled water comes with the tour. If you need an English-speaking guide, that's an additional 1,500 rupees. The 80-kilometer limit means most routes stay within the included distance. Anything beyond that runs 16 rupees per extra kilometer, and extra hours cost 200 rupees each.
