The Experience

The walk through old Amritsar is honestly hard to describe without sounding dramatic — narrow lanes twisting past goldsmiths’ workshops where you can hear tiny hammers tapping out jewelry patterns from another century. At Jallianwala Bagh, Jaspreet paused longer than usual before telling us about that day in 1919. There’s a silence there that doesn’t feel forced; even the birds seem quieter. Later we ducked into an ancient temple covered in faded frescoes — colors peeling but somehow more beautiful for it. Someone handed me a bit of prasad sweet as we left; I still remember the taste mixed with dust and sandalwood.

By the time we reached Baba Bohar — this huge banyan tree tangled up right in the city’s heart — I’d stopped checking my phone or thinking about what came next. There’s something about walking these streets with someone who knows every shortcut and story that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like you’re borrowing someone else’s hometown for an afternoon.
