The experience

I didn’t really know what to expect when we set off from the old Town Hall for this Amritsar heritage walking tour. The air was thick with that early morning mix of incense and fried dough. The walk through old Amritsar is honestly hard to describe without sounding dramatic: narrow lanes twisting past goldsmiths’ workshops where you can hear tiny hammers tapping out jewelry patterns from another century. At Jallianwala Bagh, Jaspreet paused longer than usual before telling us about that day in 1919. There’s a silence there that doesn’t feel forced. Even the birds seem quieter. Later we ducked into an ancient temple covered in faded frescoes: colors peeling but somehow more beautiful for it. Someone handed me a bit of prasad sweet as we left.
