  • Visit Hindu fertility temple

The Experience

The Golden Temple opens the morning. You'll spend time inside the Gurdwara, the holiest shrine in Sikhism, set in the middle of the sacred pool. From there, the route moves to Jallianwala Bagh, a walled garden that holds the memory of the 1919 massacre—a site where bullet holes still mark the walls and the ground carries the weight of that history. Both stops anchor the first half of the day before the drive south.

Around 3 p.m., the vehicle heads toward the Attari-Wagah Border, the land crossing between India and Pakistan. The flag-lowering ceremony—called the Retreat—happens in the late afternoon, a ritual of raised voices, high kicks and nationalist fervor that plays out on both sides of the gate at once. You watch from the stands, and the energy is deliberate and loud. After the ceremony ends, you have time to shop or eat at nearby places before returning to the city.

Transport is air-conditioned and fuel is covered in the price. Pickup happens within an 8 km radius of Amritsar; if you need the airport, that's an add-on cost depending on the vehicle size. A guide is not included but can be arranged for an extra fee. The three vehicle options—Sedan, SUV or a 12-seater Tempo Traveller—let you choose the group size that fits your party.

Top questions

What is the Golden Temple and why is it the first stop on this tour?

The Golden Temple is the holiest shrine in Sikhism, a sanctuary built around a sacred pool in the heart of Amritsar. It opens the tour because it sets the spiritual and historical tone for the day and is most peaceful in the early morning before crowds arrive.

What happened at Jallianwala Bagh that makes it a memorial?

Jallianwala Bagh is the site of a 1919 massacre during India's independence movement. The walled garden now stands as a memorial; bullet holes in the walls and plaques mark the event, and the space tells the history through its physical traces.

What is the Wagah Border flag ceremony like?

The Attari-Wagah Border Retreat ceremony is a daily ritual where Indian and Pakistani soldiers perform synchronized high kicks, aggressive posturing and flag-lowering at the gate between the two countries. It's a loud, theatrical display of national pride that happens in the late afternoon and draws crowds to stands on both sides.

Does the tour include a guide, and what languages are available?

A tour guide is not included in the base price but can be arranged separately for an additional fee. Guides are available in English and Hindi.

How far does the pickup reach, and what if I'm staying at the airport?

Pickup is included within an 8 km radius of Amritsar city. Airport pickup or drop-off costs extra—Rs. 1,000 for a Sedan or Rs. 2,000 for an SUV—and is added at checkout.

How long is the full tour, and what time does it end?

The tour runs about nine hours total. Starting in the morning at the Golden Temple and ending after the Wagah Border ceremony in the late afternoon, it covers all three main sites in a single day without requiring you to arrange the sequence or transport between them.
