The experience

You arrive at Delhi airport and meet your driver and guide there: no waiting for a group or hunting for transport. From that point, the car stays yours for six days. The route moves south to Agra (a 4-hour drive), where you spend time at the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, then detours to Abhaneri to see Chand Baori, an ancient stepwell with hundreds of narrow stone steps descending into the earth. From there it's another 3 hours to Jaipur, the Pink City, where you explore Amber Fort on a hilltop overlooking the city, the City Palace complex in the center, and the Hawa Mahal with its 953 small windows. The final day returns you to Delhi for your departure.

Your guide is a professional who speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one of three other languages, and travels with you the whole way. The car is air-conditioned and seats your group comfortably. If you're traveling with children from age one onward, they're welcome. Entry fees to all the monuments, taxes and a water bottle are included. Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are not, so you eat where you choose in each city, and you arrange your own accommodation in the three hotels.

The private format means no fixed departure time and no waiting for other travelers. You move at your own pace through each site, and your guide answers questions as you go. The car handles all the ground transport between cities and to each attraction, so you're not managing taxis, buses or navigation. Early on day six, the driver transfers you back to Delhi airport in time for your flight.
