The experience

The tour starts at your hotel or port and moves through Athens on a fixed route designed to hit the main landmarks in five hours. You skip the ticket lines at the Acropolis (entry is timed and pre-booked), and walk the hilltop to see the Parthenon, Propylaea, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike, Theatre of Dionysus and Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Your driver waits below and meets you when you come back down.

After the Acropolis, the car takes you to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, then to the Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. You stop at Syntagma Square to watch the changing of the guard in front of Parliament, then drive up Lycabettus Hill for panoramic views across the city toward the Acropolis and the Aegean. At the end, you choose: either the Ancient Agora (the birthplace of democracy, with skip-the-line entry included) or the Acropolis Museum, a modernist building at the foot of the Acropolis that holds the surviving treasures of the 5th-century BCE site.

Bottled water is provided. The driver has deep knowledge of history and can answer questions during the drive, but cannot accompany you into any museum or archaeological site. If you want a licensed guide walking the Acropolis with you, that's an additional hire. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available. Contact the operator after booking if you need one. If you're traveling with infants, specialized seats can be arranged. The driver will wait up to 30 minutes at pickup. After that, the booking counts as a no-show.

What exactly will I see on the Acropolis during this tour?

The Acropolis visit includes the Parthenon (the main temple dedicated to Athena), the Propylaea (the monumental gateway), the Erechtheion (temple to Poseidon and Athena), the Temple of Athena Nike, the Theatre of Dionysus at the foot of the hill, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a Roman stone theater completed in 161 AD. You walk these sites yourself. The driver does not accompany you inside.

Do I have to wait in line to enter the Acropolis?

No. Your entry time is booked in advance, and skip-the-line tickets are included. However, the tickets are for a specific entry time, so arriving late means losing them. New tickets would need to be purchased at your own cost if that happens.

Can I choose between the Ancient Agora and the Acropolis Museum?

Yes. At the end of the tour, you pick one or the other. The Ancient Agora, considered the birthplace of democracy, has skip-the-line entry included. The Acropolis Museum, built in 2009, showcases the surviving treasures of the 5th-century Acropolis and was voted best mono-thematic museum in 2019. It also has skip-the-line entry included.

Is a tour guide included to walk me through the sites?

No. Your driver provides transport and historical knowledge during the car ride but is not licensed to guide you inside the Acropolis, museums or archaeological sites. If you want a licensed guide to accompany you on the Acropolis, you can request one at checkout for an additional cost, subject to availability.

What happens if my flight is delayed and I arrive late for pickup?

The driver will wait up to 30 minutes at the pickup point. After 30 minutes without contact, the booking is considered a no-show. If you're concerned about timing, contact the operator by phone after your booking to discuss your arrival.
