The Experience

“You see those marks?” our guide Eleni asked, tapping her headset so we could all hear over the chatter of other groups. “That’s where the Persians tried to burn it down.” I wasn’t expecting to feel the marble still cool from last night’s rain, or to smell wild thyme as we climbed towards the Parthenon.
