The experience
The visit starts with the owners or winemaker greeting you in the vineyard itself, surrounded by the vines you'll walk through minutes later. They explain biodynamic and organic growing from the ground up: how the estate works with natural cycles and soil life rather than against them, and why that matters for what ends up in your glass. It's not a lecture delivered in a tasting room. It's people who farm this land talking about their own choices.
From there you walk the vineyard and step into the winery to see how the Grand Cru is actually made. The owners share the history of the estate and the family legacy, grounding the wine in the place and the people. By the time you reach the tasting, you understand what you're tasting and why it tastes the way it does. You'll sample two wines (a Saint-Émilion and a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru) each one paired with local products chosen to complement it.
If you want to extend the experience, you can book a picnic among the vineyards in advance: local preserves and charcuterie on a rustic wooden board, eaten where the grapes grow. After the tasting, you have free time to ask more questions, buy bottles if you want them, or simply sit in the vineyard. The whole property is wheelchair accessible, and children from age 6 onward can join.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and French.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (6 to 16 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is biodynamic viticulture, and how is it different from regular organic farming?
Biodynamic viticulture, as practiced at Clos Systey, works with natural cycles and soil life rather than relying on external inputs. The owners explain during the visit how this approach shapes both how the vines grow and the character of the wine itself. It's one of the core lessons of the experience.
Do I taste the wine before or after the vineyard walk?
The tasting comes at the end of the visit, after you've walked the vineyard and toured the winery. By then you've learned how the wine is made and why the terroir matters, so the tasting makes more sense.
Can I bring my six-year-old, and will there be anything for them to do?
Children from age 6 are welcome. The walk through the vineyard and winery is part of the experience for all ages, and they'll taste wine too, though the operator pairs the tasting with local products, so there's food involved as well.
Is the picnic in the vineyard included, or do I have to pay extra?
The picnic is optional and requires advance booking. The base experience includes the vineyard walk, winery tour, and wine tasting with local delicacies. The picnic is an add-on if you want to stay longer and eat among the vines.
How do I get to Clos Systey, and is there parking?
Public transportation options are available nearby. The property itself is wheelchair accessible and all areas are accessible by surface, so if you arrive by car or taxi, you can move around freely once you're there.
