The experience
Château Tour Baladoz opens first: a traditional cellar where you learn the stages of winemaking from vine to bottle, the way the region has done it for generations. Then you move to Château La Croizille, a modern winery with a different approach to the same craft. Both estates belong to the De Schepper family and sit within the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. The contrast between them is the point: you see how the same grapes and soil can be handled two ways, and why each one matters.
After the cellars, a guided tasting of three wines from the estates gives you the reason for both approaches. Then the picnic begins: a basket of local cheese, cured meats, fresh vegetables and fruit, a baguette, and a glass of wine you choose. You eat it overlooking the Saint-Emilion vineyards. The view is the reason Château La Croizille was built where it is. If you have allergies or dietary needs, tell the operator in advance and they adjust the basket.
