Alsatian wine tasting and meal in Strasbourg: 1850 cellar
What happens inside a family winery's historic cellar when you add panoramic film and a multi-course meal
Taste several Alsatian wines and eat a full regional meal inside the historic cellar of Maison Zeyssolff, a family winery on the Alsace Wine Route since 1850. The experience opens with Crémant d'Alsace and the family's story, moves through the barrel room and a unique 180° film projected onto the oak drums, then ends at the table with soup, a Riesling pie, Kougelhopf and coffee, paired to the wines you tasted. Children receive grape juice and their own menu. The whole visit runs about two and a half hours, with a live guide in English or French.

The experience
What makes this different from a standard winery tour is the setting itself: you're tasting inside a cellar that has been in continuous use since 1870, surrounded by the same oak barrels the family still uses to age their wines today. One of those barrels, an exceptional cabinet piece, was shown at the 1900 World's Fair. The tasting starts with a glass of Crémant d'Alsace while Céline and Yvan Zeyssolff walk you through their family history, their terroir and how Alsatian wine traditions shaped the estate.
The cellar tour includes an experience unique in France: a 180° film projected directly onto the drums using mapping technology, which pulls you into the winery's history and the family's passion for winemaking. After that immersion, you move to the dining area, still inside the old vaulted cellar, where the visual projections and lounge music continue while you eat. The menu is seasonal but always includes a soup, a Riesling pie with raw vegetables, a slice of Kougelhopf and Biebelaskaes (a local cheese spread), then coffee or tea. Each course pairs with the wines you tasted earlier. Children get knacks, vegetable chips, a drink and dessert, or they can order from the full menu on arrival.
The experience won the Alsace Tourism Trophy in 2021 and the Atout France National Wine Tourism Trophy in 2022. A guide leads the whole visit in English or French, and the space is small and cozy: designed so wine enthusiasts and newcomers alike leave enriched both culturally and emotionally, as the owners put it.
