The Experience

The day starts in Bergheim, a village tucked behind medieval walls on the wine route, then moves through Ribeauvillé, once a stronghold of the Lords of Ribeaupierre. A photo stop at Hunawihr's famous fountain breaks the route before you arrive at a local winemaker for a tasting of traditional Alsatian wines; non-alcoholic drinks are available if you prefer. The pace gives you time to walk the old towns instead of rushing through them—Riquewihr sits in the middle of the vineyard and you choose where and what to eat during the lunch break there.

The second half of the day takes you through Kaysersberg and Eguisheim, both elected "Favorite Villages of the French" in their respective years (Kaysersberg in 2017, Eguisheim in 2013). You walk the old town of each one at your own speed. The route also passes the twisted bell tower of Turckheim and follows the ramparts as it moves between stops. An air-conditioned vehicle carries the group between villages, and WiFi on board means you can look up a restaurant in Riquewihr or message ahead if you need to.

Six villages make up the main stops: Bergheim, Ribeauvillé, Hunawihr, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg and Eguisheim. The route also passes through Turckheim, so you see seven Alsatian villages in total across the 10.5 hours.

Where do we taste the wine?
