The experience

The tour starts 10 minutes from Amber Cove and 20 minutes from Taino Bay in the village of Maimon, where you get your gear and safety instructions before heading into the countryside. You'll drive your own buggy, not ride as a passenger, through the local village, then out along river beds and across fields toward the coast. This is off-road driving, so wear clothes you don't mind getting dusty and dirty.

Along the way you stop at an authentic cigar-rolling shack to learn how cigars are made and sample organic hot chocolate and coffee. You'll see Dominican agriculture and daily life as you pass through working farmland and small communities. There's a swim stop at a local beach if you want one, and the tour ends at Maimon beach in front of Amber Cove Port. The whole experience runs three hours.

You can book a single buggy for yourself or a double buggy to share with one passenger. The minimum age to drive is 16. A guide travels with the group, speaking English or Spanish, and the price covers hotel or port pickup, drop-off, full insurance, helmets and round-trip transport to the starting point.
