You get behind the wheel of an all-terrain buggy and navigate muddy trails, splash through shallow river crossings, and tackle obstacles across the Dominican countryside. The route takes you off the main roads into terrain inaccessible by car, guided by someone who knows the land and can point out local plants, animals and the region's history as you ride. The whole outing runs about three hours from pickup to drop-off, timed so you're back at the port before the ship leaves. The bus waits up to 40 minutes after docking, so there's a hard window to work within.

Midway through, you stop at a rural house where you taste Mamajuana (a local spirit), try Dominican cigars, drink fresh coffee and see authentic crafts. It's a chance to step out of the buggy and get a sense of how people actually live in the countryside, not a museum stop. Then the route heads to the beach for a swim in open water or time to sit in the sun before heading back.

The buggies are powerful enough to handle the terrain but not so technical that you need experience: the guide leads the way and the route is open to all fitness levels.
