ATV riding in Punta Cana: off-road trails, cenote and Macao Beach
Ride off-road trails, jump in a cenote, taste farm-fresh cacao, walk Macao Beach
This half-day ATV tour in Punta Cana puts you in the driver's seat of your own 4x4 vehicle on rough forest trails, with stops at a local farm, a 25-foot water cave and the limestone-backed Macao Beach. Hotel pickup, a live guide in multiple languages, and entry to the cenote are included. The itinerary runs about 4.5 hours from pickup to return.
Step-by-step itinerary
4x4 ATV ride, cenote swim, and beach
- Pick up and transport to Buggy Ranch
- Meet guide and health safety briefing
- Drive buggy through forests and gardens
- Visit and swim at Los Hoyos del Salado cenote
- Drive to Macao Beach
- Relax and enjoy Macao Beach
- Return to ATV ranch and transport back
The Experience
You get picked up from your hotel and driven 30 minutes to the ranch, where you'll meet your guide and run through a brief safety briefing before climbing into your ATV. Then the caravan heads out — you're driving your own vehicle in rally style through forest roads and tropical gardens, navigating the terrain yourself for roughly 20 minutes to the first real stop. This is not a passenger experience; you control the throttle and the line.
The farm visit comes next. You'll taste organic coffee and cacao straight from the plants, see how they're grown and processed, and get a real sense of how Dominican agriculture works outside the resort zone. From there you drive to Los Hoyos del Salado, a cenote about 25 feet deep with crystal-clear water. You can jump in to cool off or just admire it from the edge — either way, you've got time to swim and explore before heading back to the vehicles.
The final leg takes you to Macao Beach, one of Punta Cana's less-crowded stretches of sand backed by limestone cliffs. You'll have roughly 40 minutes to walk the beach, wade in the waves and sit with the view before the group heads back to the ranch and then to your hotel. The whole day, including transport and the cenote entry, is arranged — you just show up and ride.
What’s included

What's the cenote like — can you actually swim in it?
Los Hoyos del Salado is a water cave about 25 feet deep with clear water, and yes, swimmers jump in and cool off during the stop. You can also stay on the edge and take photos if you prefer not to swim.
Do I need ATV experience to book this, or is it for beginners too?
The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels, and the guide gives safety instructions before you ride. You're driving your own vehicle, but the pace is set by the group and the terrain is manageable for first-time riders.
What happens at the farm — is it a real working place or a tourist stop?
It's an authentic local farm where you taste organic coffee and cacao grown on-site. You'll see how both are cultivated and processed, not just sample them in a shop.
How much time do you actually get at Macao Beach?
You have roughly 40 minutes at Macao Beach to walk the sand, wade in the water and take in the limestone cliffs before heading back to the ranch and your hotel.
Is hotel pickup really included, or do I have to get to the ranch myself?
Hotel pickup is included. You'll be collected from your accommodation and driven to the ranch, then returned to your hotel at the end of the tour.
What languages does the guide speak?
The guide is live and available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and one additional language.
