Drive rough roads through forests to a water cave 25 feet deep, then out to a UNESCO-ranked beach.

A buggy tour in Punta Cana takes you through countryside and forests to three stops: an organic farm where you taste coffee and chocolate, a natural cenote cave where swimmers can jump into the water, and Macao Beach, recognized by UNESCO as one of the world's 10 best beaches. The tour lasts around 4 hours, includes pickup from your hotel, a live guide in multiple languages, and runs as either a shared experience or one buggy per person. Children from age 3 are welcome; infants are not permitted for safety reasons.

The Experience

After a 30-minute pickup and drive to the buggy ranch, you'll get a safety briefing and climb into your vehicle. Then the ride begins in rally style through rough roads that cut between forests and tropical gardens, heading toward the first stop. The whole day moves in segments—drive, stop, explore, drive again—so you're never sitting still for long.

The first real stop is an organic farm where you taste and learn about Dominican products: coffee, green tea, chocolate, mamajuana, and cigars. This is where you get a sense of what grows here and how it's made, not just a quick photo op. Then back on the buggy for another 25-minute run to the cenote. The cave sits 25 feet below ground with water inside; swimmers jump in and cool off while everyone else walks around and takes in the space. After that comes the drive to Macao Beach, where you have time to relax on the sand and in the waves before the ride back to the ranch.

You can book this as a shared tour with other travelers or reserve one buggy per person if you want your own vehicle and guide. Either way, your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language, and they handle the route and timing. Professional photographs are available for purchase if you want them. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a bandana—the sun and dust are real out there—and note that towels and drinks aren't included, so plan accordingly.
