The experience

You drive your own ATV the whole way: no watching from a passenger seat. The route takes you through Puerto Plata's landscape toward the beach, where you get 20 minutes to walk the sand and feel the breeze before heading back. Bring a change of clothes and towels if you want to get in the water. Dust scarves cost US$5 at the location if you don't have one. Closed shoes work best, and waterproof ones are ideal. The whole outing runs 3.5 hours.

Children over 8 can ride along, but they must sit with an adult. They don't drive their own machine. The guide speaks English or Spanish and stays with the group throughout. Helmet and goggles are provided. You'll want to bring a handkerchief or buy a scarf to keep dust out of your mouth on the ride. An air-conditioned vehicle is available if you need a break or want to skip the ATV portion.

Hotel or ship pickup is included, so you don't arrange your own transport to the start. The operator's customer service team handles the booking and coordinates your departure time.
