The experience
You're picked up and driven to the trailhead, then you take the wheel. The route runs three hours through Punta Cana's plantations and forests: adrenaline-focused terrain where you steer the buggy yourself while the guide leads the way and points out the fauna and landscape. This is not a sightseeing ride. You're operating the vehicle the whole time.
Midway through, you stop at Los Hoyos del Salado, a natural water cave where you can swim in the clear water and taste local chocolate, coffee and Manajuana. Then the trail leads to Macao Beach, where the white sand and coast are the final stretch. At the beach, you visit a chocolate and coffee factory to taste what the region produces. Transport between each stop is included, so you move from one site to the next without arranging anything.
The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or Portuguese throughout, and children from age 5 can join. Dust goggles and scarves are available to rent separately if you want them. The whole experience runs about three hours from start to finish.
Is this one for you?The ride itself is the main event. You're operating the buggy for the full three hours, so this suits anyone comfortable with off-road driving and ready for an active morning or afternoon. The cave swim and beach time are built in, so you're not just riding. You're also stopping to cool off and taste local products.
