The experience
You're picked up from your hotel in Puerto Plata and driven inland to Damajagua, where the tour starts at the base of a river canyon. The 27 waterfalls are stacked one above the other, and the route moves upstream: you wade through pools, swim where the water is deep enough, and climb the rocks and natural ledges that connect each level. The guide leads the way and shows you where to place your hands and feet, but the climbing is something you do yourself. It's not steep enough to need ropes, but it does require balance and a moderate level of fitness.
The tour also includes stops at Taíno Bay and Caleta Ámbar, two other sites in the area. The whole outing runs about six hours from pickup to return, though the actual waterfall section is the core of the morning. You'll be wet for most of it, so wear clothes you don't mind soaking and bring a change for the drive back.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I bring my young children to the 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua?
Infants and small children can come along. Infants can ride in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available. The climbing sections are not suitable for very small children, so the guide can advise on which pools and easier stretches work for your group.
What should I wear for climbing the waterfalls?
Wear clothes that can get soaked: swimwear or quick-dry shorts and a shirt work best. Bring water shoes or sandals with grip. The rocks are slippery. Pack a dry change of clothes for the ride back to Puerto Plata.
Is the climb to all 27 waterfalls difficult?
The route requires a moderate level of physical fitness and involves climbing rock faces and wading through water at each step. It's not technical climbing, but you need to be comfortable with balance and scrambling over wet stone. The guide can suggest turning back at any point if the terrain becomes too challenging.
Does the tour include meals or drinks?
Private transportation is included, along with the guide and access to the waterfall sites. Coffee and tea are not included, so bring water and snacks if you want them during the hike.
