The experience

The tour starts at Ban Jelačić Square, the heart of Zagreb where the city's major events happen, then moves quickly to the European Square overlooking the Cathedral. From there you walk to the first restaurant for an Istrian cold appetizer and regional wine: your introduction to the culinary regions that shaped Croatian food. The guide explains the traditions and preparation of each dish as you eat, so the food becomes a way to understand the country itself.

After the first stop you pass through Dolac Market, a farmers market that has operated since 1930 and holds deep cultural importance to the city. The second restaurant serves warm appetizers from Zagreb's own region, then the walk continues down Tkalčićeva street: the most vibrant street in the old town, lined with cafes, shops and locals. You pass the Stone Gates, a 13th-century defense monument now a prayer site, and reach Zagreb Cathedral, a Gothic structure with two spires visible across the city. The route then takes you through Saint Marks Square in the old town, past Lotrščak Tower (another remnant of the ancient defense system), and up the Uspinjača, the world's shortest funicular, to Strossmayer Promenade, where you stop for panoramic views of Zagreb before the third restaurant serves a main dish from Zagreb and Zagorje regions.
