Private ATV Adventure Tamarindo: Ride Wild Terrain
Ride rocks, rivers and sand on a Yamaha ATV through Costa Rican backcountry
A private two-hour ATV adventure in Tamarindo puts you on a Yamaha four-wheeler over rocks, gravel, rivers and sand on a circular route through hidden trails and multiple towns. A live guide in English or Spanish leads the ride, and hotel pickup is included. The route suits both experienced riders and newcomers.
The Experience
You'll spend two hours on a Yamaha ATV navigating a circular route that crosses rivers, climbs over rocky terrain, and rolls through sand and gravel. The guide picks you up from your hotel and leads the group through hidden trails that wind past multiple towns and beaches. The terrain changes constantly — what starts as a climb over rocks becomes a river crossing, then opens onto sand flats — so the ride stays unpredictable without ever feeling out of control.
The route is built for both riders who've done this before and people getting on an ATV for the first time. You'll encounter the lively ecosystem as you move through the landscape: the plants and animals of the region show up naturally as you ride, not as a separate stop. Bottled water is provided, and the guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your preference.
The circular route means you start and end at the same point, so there's no scrambling to figure out logistics after the ride ends. Minimum age is 18, and you'll need to review and sign the ATV rental agreement and waiver of liability before you start — both are available on the operator's website.

What kind of terrain will I actually ride on during the two hours?
The ATV adventure covers rocks, gravel, rivers, sand and hidden trails in a circular route. You'll cross rivers and climb over varied ground as the landscape shifts throughout the ride, so there's no single terrain type — it changes as you go.
Is this ATV tour okay for someone who's never ridden before?
Yes, the circular route is designed for both experienced riders and newcomers. The guide leads the group and the terrain, while challenging, is suitable for all physical fitness levels.
How does pickup work, and where will the guide meet me?
Hotel pickup is included in the private tour option. The guide will collect you from your accommodation and bring you back after the two-hour ride ends.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
Bottled water is provided during the ride. You'll need to bring sunscreen, wear closed-toe shoes, and sign the ATV rental agreement and waiver of liability before you start — review both on the operator's website beforehand.
Can I book this if I have a back injury or am pregnant?
The ATV adventure is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or pregnant travelers due to the terrain and the physical demands of riding. If you have concerns about your health or fitness, contact the operator before booking.
