The experience

You start at the Adventure Center in Jaco, where your bilingual guide walks you through safety and gives you practice laps on a private track before the trails begin. The quad itself is a 2-person 4x4 built for two riders sharing one vehicle: one person operates the controls while the other rides along, and you can swap roles if you want. Once you're comfortable, the guide leads you out through jungle trails, rivers and dirt paths, moving at a pace that keeps the group together.

The route takes you to a private ocean-view lookout and sky bridge first, where you can see the coast from above. From there you drop into the forest and navigate toward the waterfall, which sits about 10 minutes from Jaco Beach and Los Sueños Resort. The hike in is short, 5 minutes on foot, and the waterfall itself is yours to explore: you can swim, wade, or just sit in the pool and let the water run over you. Your guides bring cool water and fresh tropical fruit to the waterfall, so you eat and drink there before heading back to the center.

The whole outing runs 3 hours from start to finish. A $1,000 refundable hold goes on your credit card to secure the ATV reservation, or you can buy insurance for $25 per vehicle instead. Public transportation options are available near the center if you don't have your own ride to get there.
