Step-by-step itinerary

Coffee farm tour and tasting

  • Meet at Salento central plaza
  • Ride Willys Jeep to coffee farm
  • Learn coffee process and plant seedlings
  • Harvest coffee cherries
  • Observe drying, roasting, and grinding
  • Guided coffee tasting session
  • Return to Salento central square

The experience

How does a coffee cherry become the cup you drink? This tour answers it by putting you to work on a farm that's been growing coffee for over 100 years in the hills above Salento. You'll meet your group at the central plaza, climb into a traditional Willys Jeep, and ride out to the plantation where a coffee expert walks you through each step of the process, from seed to roasting, most of it still done by hand. The hands-on part is real: you plant seedlings in the soil and pick ripe cherries off the plants, then watch the drying and roasting happen in front of you.

After the farm work, local baristas lead a guided tasting where you learn to identify what makes Colombian coffee rank among the world's best. They answer questions about flavor, quality and the traits you're tasting in your cup. The whole experience sits inside 4 hours, and when it's done you return to Salento's central square. If you want to extend the day, you can add Cocora Valley entry at checkout and visit both on the same morning.

This is a shared tour, so you'll meet other travelers: the group stays small enough that the guide can give real attention. You need at least two people for the tour to run. If only one person books, you'll be offered a different date or a full refund. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes, bring sunscreen and a water bottle, and plan to be at the plaza on time. Transportation from Salento and back, the guide, all-risk insurance and coffee tasting are included.
