Step-by-step itinerary
Coffee farm visit and Salento tour
- Drive to Luger coffee farm
- Meet tour guide and coffee expert
- Tour coffee plantation and learn process
- Plant coffee seedlings and pick cherries
- See coffee roasting and grinding
- Enjoy 1-hour Salento walking tour
The experience
The tour starts with a drive to Luger, a hundred-year-old coffee farm with views across the plantations. Once there, your guide, a coffee expert, walks you through the different stages of how coffee grows, from seed to roast. You don't just watch: you plant a seedling in the nursery beds and pick ripe coffee cherries straight from the bushes. After the hands-on work, you move through the final steps of processing, including the roasting and sometimes grinding, so you see the full arc of what happens between the plant and your cup.
The tasting comes next: a high-quality Colombian coffee served after all that labor makes the flavor land differently. Then the tour shifts to Salento itself. You spend an hour walking through the town center with your guide, who points out the architecture and the rhythm of daily life in one of the Coffee Triangle's most visited towns.
The whole experience runs about five hours from pickup to drop-off. You'll need comfortable shoes and water. The farm operates in all weather, so dress for rain if the forecast calls for it. Bring a camera: the plantation views and the seedling moment are worth capturing.
