Coffee experience near Pereira: Meet the Grisales family
Taste coffee the way the family who grows it does
A four-hour coffee class at Los Grisales farm near Pereira puts you in the hands of the producers themselves, not a tour operator. You walk through each stage of the coffee process (from the plants to harvest to drying), then taste and learn to recognize the aromas and flavors that make specialty coffee distinct. The experience includes a guide in English or Spanish, pickup, and an optional extension to the Pereira store or an ecological trail through the guadual forest where the water that feeds the farm begins.

Step-by-step itinerary
Coffee family visit and tasting
- Welcome with Grisales family
- Learn coffee planting and care
- Manual harvesting of coffee beans
- Observe pulping and drying processes
- Interact with coffee farmers
- Guided tasting of specialty coffee
- Optional visit to Pereira store
- Optional ecological trail exploration
The experience
The experience starts with a welcome cup from the family's own tradition, then moves through the coffee cycle as the Grisales walk you through planting, caring for the plants, hand-harvesting ripe beans, and the pulping and drying that follow. You're not watching a demonstration. You interact directly with the farmers, ask questions about their methods, and learn the details of coffee culture that shape how the region's coffee tastes. This is training in how to recognize what makes one coffee different from another, not entertainment.
The tasting comes at the end, after you've seen where the coffee comes from. A guide leads you through different cup profiles, teaching you to pick out specific aromas and flavors in each one. The whole arc (from the farm to the cup in your hand) takes about four hours and includes hydration and insurance. Pickup is arranged for you, and the guide speaks English or Spanish.
Two optional add-ons extend the day. You can visit the Los Grisales store at Pereira Plaza shopping center (local 209) to sample specialty coffees and trace the beans you tasted back to their source. Or walk an ecological trail to the guadual forest and the spring where the farm's water originates, connecting the coffee to its natural setting. Public transportation is available nearby if you prefer to arrange your own way there.
