The experience

You leave from your hotel or the airport in Pereira at a time you choose, traveling by van or minibus with your guide. Stops along the way are yours to request: the route itself is flexible, not locked to a fixed schedule. The guide speaks both English and Spanish, so language is not a barrier to the stories and details that make the landscape readable.

Cocora Valley is the heart of the day. You walk into a palm forest where the wax palms tower overhead (some of the tallest palm trees on earth), and the air shifts as you move deeper into total nature. The valley is also where Andean condors live, and the guide knows where to look and what to listen for. After the walk, you return to the van and head toward Salento, a colonial town where the streets are narrow, the balconies are deep, and the facades are painted in colors that have held for centuries. The royal street is where locals sell crafts and goods. It is also where you walk and get a sense of how the town actually works, not as a museum but as a place where people live.

Medical assistance insurance is included. The tour runs six hours from start to finish. If you are traveling from Armenia instead of Pereira, the same tour departs from there, with the same guide and the same flexibility on timing.

What’s included

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

Can I choose what time the tour starts?

Yes. You set the departure time and inform the operator when you book. The tour is private, so the schedule is yours to shape.

What is the walk through Cocora Valley actually like?

Cocora Valley is a palm forest where the wax palms grow taller than anywhere else in the world. You walk among them with your guide, who points out the Andean condors that live in the canopy and explains the ecology of the place. The walk is on marked trails through natural forest, not a paved path.

Does the tour stop in Salento?

Yes. After Cocora Valley, you drive to Salento, a colonial town in the Coffee Axis. You walk the royal street, where you see the painted balconies, the local shops and crafts, and the way the town is built. It is a walking tour of the town itself, not a museum or a single attraction.

Can I request stops on the drive between Pereira and Cocora Valley?

Yes. The route allows stops upon request, so if something catches your eye or you want to photograph a particular view, you can ask the driver to pull over.

Is the palm forest walk difficult?

The walk is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The operator does not recommend the tour for travelers with poor cardiovascular health, so if you have concerns about your fitness, mention them when you book.
