The experience

Day one takes you into Cocora Valley for a hike between one and two hours through the wax palms (the world's tallest palm species and habitat of the Andean condor) guided by someone who knows the region's history. From there you move to Salento, where the colonial facades, balconies and craft shops line the royal street, then finish at the Philandia viewpoint overlooking the coffee territory before returning to your starting point.

Day two centers on a traditional coffee farm in Santa Rosa de Cabal, where you walk through the growing and production process with the growers themselves, taste the coffee, and then move to the natural hot springs nearby. These thermal pools sit in the mountains with a waterfall, and the mineral water is known for its healing properties. The day ends there, giving you time to soak before heading back.

Transportation runs both days from your agreed pickup point. Your guide speaks English and Spanish, and the group stays small enough that you're not herded through stops. Medical assistance insurance is included, and the tour suits all fitness levels. The hike in Cocora Valley is the most active part, but you set the pace.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

How long is the hike through Cocora Valley?

The hike through the wax palm forest runs between one and two hours, depending on the pace you choose with your guide. You're walking among the tallest palms in the world in their natural habitat.

What does the coffee farm visit include?

The coffee farm tour covers the full growing and production process of Colombian coffee, led by the growers themselves. You'll see the plants, learn how the beans are processed, and taste the coffee at the end.

Are the thermal springs included, or do I pay separately?

The Santa Rosa thermal springs are included. Your thermal passport is part of the tour package. You can spend as much time as you want soaking in the natural hot pools before the day ends.

What's the difference between Salento and Philadelphia on day one?

Salento is the larger colonial village with shops and local crafts along its main street. Philadelphia is smaller and more intimate. Both have colonial architecture, but you visit the Philandia viewpoint specifically to see the coffee landscape stretching across the mountains.

Do I need to arrange my own transportation to the starting point?

Transportation is included each day from your agreed pickup location, so you don't arrange separate rides to the tour. Public transportation options are also available nearby if you prefer to meet the group at a central point.

Is this tour suitable if I'm not very fit?

The tour is designed for all fitness levels. The main physical activity is the one- to two-hour hike in Cocora Valley, where you set your own pace with the guide. The rest of the two days involves walking through villages and relaxing at the thermal springs.
