The experience

The tour starts with airport pickup in the evening or late afternoon and a private transfer to your hotel in Wulingyuan. Day two is spent inside Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you hike through mountain landscape, ride the cable car at Tianzi Mountain and walk along streams in the forest. The park is huge. The highest peak reaches over 4,000 feet, and on clear days you stand above the clouds. You'll see Avatar Mountain, Hallelujah Mountain and the Xihai Stone Forest, with a chance to spot wild monkeys along the forest paths.

Day three takes you to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, where the glass-bottomed bridge (the longest and tallest in the world) lets you walk across transparent panels. The canyon itself combines mountains, streams, caves and forest. Five of the seven available activities (zip line, lifts, slides, mixed reality glasses and others) are included in your entrance ticket. You also visit Yellow Dragon Cave, described locally as an "underground enchanted palace," where you take a short boat trip inside. The evening brings either the Tianmen Fox Fairy Show (an outdoor performance with a VIP middle seat) or, if weather prevents it, the Charming Xiangxi Performance indoors with a super VIP seat included.

On the final day you ride the world's longest cable car up Tianmen Mountain, walk the glass skywalk, and climb the 999-step staircase to Heaven's Gate. The entrance ticket covers the cable car ride one way and an eco-friendly shuttle bus. Optional chairlift and escalator rides cost extra. After Tianmen Mountain, your guide drops you at Zhangjiajie airport for an afternoon or evening flight, or at the train or bus station if you're leaving by ground transport.

Do I need to arrange my own transport inside the national forest parks?

Private vehicles cannot drive inside Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Only local residents' cars are permitted. You'll travel by environment-friendly shuttle buses, cable cars and other transit provided by the park. Your guide arranges all movement inside the parks as part of the tour.

What happens if it rains during the outdoor evening show?

The Tianmen Fox Fairy Show is performed outdoors, so heavy rain cancels it. If that occurs, you'll watch the Charming Xiangxi Performance instead, which is held indoors, and your ticket will be upgraded to a super VIP seat at no extra cost.

Does the tour include meals?

Breakfast is included each morning, and one dinner is provided on the tour. Other meals are not included. Your guide can recommend restaurants or help arrange meals at additional cost.
