The Experience
Day one starts at your hotel in the morning. The guide takes you into Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and up Tianzi Mountain by cable car, where you see the Sea of Clouds, moonlight effects and the highest peak in the Wulingyuan area. From there, a 30-minute shuttle bus carries you to Yuanjiajie Scenic Area—the landscape that inspired the floating mountains in Avatar. You stop for lunch on your own, then descend via the Bailong Elevator, a two-minute ride in a glass elevator built into the cliff face that lets you look straight down as you drop.
Day two takes you to the Grand Canyon of Zhangjiajie, where the world's longest and highest glass bridge spans a valley of waterfalls, streams and stone formations. Walking across it, you look down at the rock and scrubland below. The Grand Canyon also holds smaller attractions—Bandit Cave, One Line Sky, Chuangwang Pavilion—woven through the landscape. After lunch (on your own), you head to Baofeng Lake for a boat ride among strange-shaped stone hills and a waterfall, a quiet finish after two days of climbing and descending.
The private guide speaks English or Chinese and stays with you both days. Transport is by air-conditioned vehicle, and the driver picks you up and drops you off at your hotel. All park entrance fees and the cable car, elevator and boat ride are covered; you pay only for meals you choose to buy.
