The experience
The tour opens in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site built from over 3,000 sandstone pillars of different shapes and sizes. The first day moves through three distinct zones. Yuanjiajie is where the Avatar films were shot. The pillars here are larger than elsewhere in the park, and the main formation is called Hallelujah Mountain. You reach the summit by the world's highest outdoor elevator, which climbs 326 meters in one minute and 28 seconds. Mt. Tianzi, named after a Ming Dynasty leader, sits on an old battlefield and offers the sharpest, most dramatic views of the peak forest from above. Golden Whip Stream runs 6 kilometers along a flat, paved walkway at the valley floor, taking about two hours to walk end to end. The stream is regarded as one of China's most beautiful, and you see the Avatar peaks from below rather than from above: a completely different perspective.
Day two takes you to Tianmen Mountain, the highest point in Zhangjiajie. The mountain holds four World Guinness Records and is known for two specific features: a cliff-edge path carved into the rock face and a glass walkway that lets you stand above the city with nothing beneath your feet but transparent floor. From the top, you see the whole city and countryside spread below. The tour ends here, and your driver returns you to your hotel.
An English-speaking guide travels with you both days. Private transport is included, as is pickup from your hotel on the morning the tour starts (or the evening before if you arrive early). The operator provides bottled water and snacks throughout the two days.
