The Experience

The Bailong Elevator carries you up Yuanjiajie in minutes—it's the world's tallest full-exposure outdoor lift, and the platform at the top is the real landscape that inspired Avatar's Hallelujah Mountain. From there, the stone peaks rise around you like a forest of pillars, and you walk to Mihun Stage and the Enchanting Platform to see the South Sky Pillar, a 150-meter column of rock that stands alone. The elevator descent is just as striking: you drop back down the face of the mountain in full view of the valley below.

Tianzi Mountain opens up a different view—a mesa in the northwest where you can see across the entire nature reserve, with Helong Park and the West Sea spreading out below. A cablecar brings you down from the ridge. On the second day you also explore Golden Whip Brook, a valley named after the Golden Whip Rock, walking 1.5 to 2 kilometers through fresh air and clear water.

The Glass Bridge is the centerpiece of day three. At 430 meters long and suspended 300 meters above the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon floor, it holds the title of the world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge. Walking across it means looking straight down through the glass at the cliffs and forests far below. The Grand Canyon itself has smaller attractions—Bandit Cave, One Line Sky, Rotten Ship Rock, Butterfly Spring Waterfall—and you can add optional activities like zip-lining or a sliding road if you want them. Yellow Dragon Cave, one of Asia's longest caves, sits nearby: it's an underground system with hanging waterfalls, stone formations, and underground rivers, cool in summer and warm in winter.

On the final day, Tianmen Mountain brings you to the Glass Skywalk and the Tianmen Cave, a natural opening in the mountain face known as a door to heaven. The 99 Bends Bus Road winds up the mountain, and a cablecar—the longest in the region—carries you to the top. Before your drop-off at the airport or railway station, you visit the Junsheng Sandstone Painting Museum, a gallery of sand and stone paintings founded by a Tujia artist in 2001.

Top questions

What is the Bailong Elevator and why is it part of this tour?

The Bailong Elevator is the world's tallest full-exposure outdoor lift, carrying you up the face of Yuanjiajie mountain to reach Avatar Mountain (the landscape that inspired the film). It's included in this tour because it's the fastest way to reach the high platform and the stone peaks, and the ride itself is a major attraction—you ascend and descend in full view of the valley.

Can I walk across the Glass Bridge on this tour?

Yes, the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge is included on day three. It spans 430 meters and sits 300 meters above the Grand Canyon floor, with glass panels underfoot so you can see straight down as you cross.

What happens on the first day when I arrive?

Your driver meets you at Zhangjiajie Airport or Railway Station and transfers you to your hotel in Wulingyuan, near the East Gate of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. There are no activities on day one—it's a rest day after travel.

Is Yellow Dragon Cave included, and what is it like?

Yellow Dragon Cave is included on day three. It's one of Asia's longest caves, featuring underground rivers, hanging waterfalls, and dense stone formations. The air circulates naturally, so it stays cool in summer and warm in winter.

Do I need to pay extra for the cablecars and elevators?

The Bailong Elevator to Avatar Mountain is included. Other cablecars—on Tianzi Mountain and Tianmen Mountain—are optional and cost 394 RMB (about 58 USD) per person; you pay your guide directly if you choose to use them.

What language does the guide speak?

Your guide speaks English or Chinese, depending on which you select at booking.
