The experience

The day starts with a panoramic drive through Santiago's center, where you'll see the Presidential Palace, the neoclassical Cathedral (built between 1753 and 1799), the historic Central Post Office on Plaza de Armas, and the financial district around Plaza de la Constitución. You pass Paseo Ahumada, the four-block shopping street, and have the option to visit Santa Lucía Hill or Cerro San Cristóbal for city views before heading toward the coast.

Undurraga Winery sits in the Maipo Valley and holds the distinction of being the first Chilean vineyard to export to the United States. The cellars date to 1885. A guide walks you through the park and vineyard (including the Aliwen corner, which recreates southern Chilean vegetation and Mapuche totem poles), then into the winemaking cellars. The tasting that follows includes four reserve wines.

Transport is by air-conditioned minivan with a professional guide. Hotel or port pickup is included. If you're a cruise passenger, you provide your ship name, docking time, and re-boarding time at booking so the driver can time your return. Drop-off at Valparaíso, San Antonio, or Viña del Mar is included depending on which option you choose. The tour runs 7 to 8 hours total.

Is this one for you?Book the San Antonio option if your ship docks there. Book the Valparaíso option if that's your port. Either way, the private vehicle and fixed return time mean you control when you leave the winery and when you're back at the ship, which matters when you're on a cruise schedule.
