Waffle Making Workshop With Beer Tasting: Brussels
Learn to make waffles the way Brussels does—with beer in the batter and toppings piled high
A 2-hour waffle-making workshop in Brussels where you learn to prepare traditional Brussels waffles using beer, taste three local Belgian beers, and eat as many waffles as you want with your choice of toppings. The workshop includes all cooking equipment, a complimentary drink, and instruction from a live English-speaking guide; minimum age is 18. Vegan and alcohol-free beer options are available on request.
The Experience
Can you actually make waffles with beer? Yes—and it's the traditional way. You'll start with an introduction to Belgian beer culture, then move into the hands-on part: mixing your batter (which uses beer), letting it rest while you taste three local Belgian beers with your guide's commentary on their history and character, then cooking your waffles and loading them with as many sweet toppings as you want. The workshop runs two hours, and the pace is built around making and eating, not rushing through a script.
The cooking gear is all there—you're not bringing anything. Your guide walks you through the basics, then you take over at the stove. The three beers you taste are traditional Belgian selections, not generic brands, and they pair with the waffles you've just made. A complimentary drink comes with your plate, so you can keep going. If you eat more than nine waffles during the workshop, you join the record board; the current champion has held the title for a while. The whole thing is built for you to make the craziest topping combinations you can think of and take pictures—this is not a formal tasting where you sit still.
Vegan waffles and alcohol-free beer for the batter are available if you ask when you book. Gluten-free is not an option here because the beer tasting is central to the workshop, but the operator runs a separate traditional waffle class if that matters to you. Coffee and tea are included. Public transportation is nearby if you need it.

Operated by Brussels Waffle Workshop
Is this one for you? This workshop asks you to stand at the stove and cook—you're making the waffles yourself, not watching a demonstration. If you want hands-on time in the kitchen and don't mind a casual, food-focused pace where the goal is eating what you've made, this one fits. The 2-hour window is tight enough that you're not spending a full afternoon, but long enough to taste, cook, and eat without feeling rushed.

Can I make waffles with beer if I've never cooked before?
Yes. The workshop teaches you the basics from scratch, and your guide walks you through each step. You're making the batter and cooking the waffles yourself, but it's designed for beginners—no prior experience needed.
What are the 3 Belgian beers I'll taste?
The workshop features three traditional Belgian beers selected by the operator; the exact brands rotate, but they are always local and never generic mass-market options. Your guide explains the history and character of each one as you taste.
How many waffles can I actually eat during the workshop?
You can make and eat as many as you want within the 2-hour window. The current record is over 9 waffles, and the operator is looking for someone to beat it. Most people make between 3 and 6, depending on appetite and how much time they spend on toppings and photos.
Is this workshop suitable if I don't drink alcohol?
Yes. Alcohol-free beer is available for making the waffle batter if you request it when booking. You'll still taste the three traditional beers as part of the tasting, but you can skip that portion or taste without drinking. A complimentary non-alcoholic drink is included with your waffles.
What toppings are available for the waffles?
The workshop offers a wide range of sweet toppings so you can create your own combinations—the operator encourages you to make the craziest versions you can think of and photograph them. Specific toppings are not listed, but the setup is designed for creativity.
Do I need to bring anything or wear special clothes?
No. All cooking gear and equipment are provided. Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little flour or batter on, but nothing special is required. The workshop supplies everything you need to make and cook the waffles.
