The Experience
You walk into the rum house at Galleon Beach and get your own pot still and work station. The rum experts start with the history — where Caribbean rum came from, why the techniques matter, how the islands built their reputation on fermentation and fire. Then you're moving through the actual process: distilling techniques, old methods and new ones side by side, so you see why the craft has changed and what stayed the same. It's not a lecture. You're doing it, watching the liquid transform, understanding why temperature and timing matter because you're controlling both.
After distilling comes the part that feels like play but is actually precision. You blend your own flavors — the rum experts guide you through combinations, but the recipe is yours. Vanilla, spice, fruit, wood notes, whatever pulls you. You taste as you go, adjusting, tasting again. Then you bottle it. Your name goes on the label. You leave with a bottle that you made, not something you watched someone else make, and that changes how it tastes when you open it at home.
The whole masterclass runs two to three hours. Groups stay small, so you're not waiting for a turn at the still or competing for the expert's attention. Galleon Beach itself is accessible — all surfaces, all areas — and public transport gets you there if you're not driving. The only hard rule: you need to be 18 to taste the rums as you work. If you're younger, you still distill and blend, but the tasting part doesn't apply.
What’s included
Your own pot still and individual work station, guided distilling using both traditional and modern techniques, rum tasting samples, flavor blending materials, and a personalized bottle with custom label that you bottle yourself and take home.
