Step-by-step itinerary
Chobe River Safari and Game Drive
- 2-hour river safari on Chobe River
- Lunch at Chobe Safari Lodge
- 1-hour rest after lunch
- 4-hour game drive in Chobe National Park
- Drive back to border and transfer to Livingstone
The experience
The day starts on the water. A 2-hour river safari takes you along the Chobe River's banks where large herds of animals gather to drink, and you'll spot water birds nesting along the shore. The landscape itself shifts as you move downriver: the river dwellers and the birds are part of what makes the cruise worth the time. After the cruise, you're driven to Chobe Safari Lodge for a full buffet lunch where you choose what you eat, then given an hour to rest before the afternoon game drive.
The 4-hour game drive covers Chobe National Park's open terrain. You'll explore the park as the guide drives, working back toward the border and the final transfer to Livingstone. The route itself is the point: the abundance of flora and fauna across the park's different zones, and the chances to spot wildlife moving through their habitat rather than congregating at water. Private transportation and an air-conditioned vehicle mean you're not sharing the space or the route with other groups.
The full day runs 9 to 11 hours from pickup to return. WiFi is available on board, and all surfaces and areas are wheelchair accessible. Infants sit on an adult's lap. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health.

Is this one for you? This tour works best if you want to see wildlife in two different settings (at the water's edge and across open terrain) without splitting the day into separate bookings. The fixed schedule and private transport mean you move at one pace through both habitats, and the midday rest at the lodge breaks up the driving without cutting into the time you spend watching animals.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 11 years). Under 3: they can't be included in the booking.
What animals will I see on the Chobe River and in the park?
Large herds of animals come to the Chobe River to drink, and the river cruise is built around spotting them at the water's edge. The 4-hour game drive through Chobe National Park lets you track wildlife across the open terrain, though which species you encounter depends on the season and the animals' movement that day.
Is lunch included in the full-day safari?
Lunch is a full buffet served at Chobe Safari Lodge after the river cruise, and you choose what you eat from the spread. The meal is included in the tour price.
How much time do I spend actually driving versus resting?
The river safari takes 2 hours, then you have an hour to rest at the lodge before the 4-hour game drive. The full day runs 9 to 11 hours from pickup to your return to Livingstone, with the driving and cruising making up the majority of that time.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the starting point?
Private transportation is included. Pickup is arranged as part of the tour, and you're driven back to Livingstone at the end of the day.
