The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel, train station or Dong Hoi airport at 7 a.m., then a drive to the Son River dock. You board a dragon boat and travel upstream through the countryside, passing Tram Me Village where you see daily life along the riverbank. At 9 a.m. you reach Phong Nha Cave, the longest water cave in Southeast Asia, and explore the main chamber and two smaller caves (Co Tien and Cung Dinh) to see stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years. The boat returns you to the dock by 11:30 a.m.

Lunch is at a local restaurant in Quang Dien District, then at 1:30 p.m. you arrive at Hava Valley. This is where the activity shifts: you change into a swimsuit and the landscape becomes yours to move through. The 600-meter zipline is the centerpiece (you glide over the valley's cliffs and water below), but the valley also has kayaking on the Chay River, swimming in the cool water, and a short slide. Everything here is at your own pace. The zipline itself is at your own expense. You return to Dong Hoi by bus at 4:30 p.m., arriving around 5:30 p.m.

Your guide speaks English or Vietnamese throughout. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and you get bottled water and cold towels during the day. Cave entry, the dragon boat ride, Hava Valley access and all its activities except the 600-meter zipline are included. Lunch is Vietnamese dishes.
