Departing from Dong Hoi or Phong Nha between 7:30 and 9:00 AM, you'll climb to Paradise Cave's mouth for views across the mountainous region, walk the wooden bridge inside to see stalactites and stalagmites, then move to Dark Cave for a sequence of adventure activities: kayaking into the cave entrance, zip-lining over the river, swimming with a life jacket, and bathing in buoyant mud deep inside. The experience

What makes this different from a standard cave tour is that you're not watching from a boardwalk. You're operating the equipment and moving through the caves yourself. The day starts with a pickup from your Dong Hoi or Phong Nha hotel around 7:30 to 9:00 AM, then a drive to Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park. You'll ride a golf cart 1.6 km through the jungle to Paradise Cave's entrance, climb to the mouth (the views of the surrounding mountains are the payoff for the effort), then walk roughly 1 km across wooden bridges inside the cave to see the stalactite and stalagmite formations. It's the longest dry cave in Asia and has been open since 2010. The scale and the light filtering through the openings are what people come back to describe.

After lunch at Dark Cave restaurant (traditional Vietnamese dishes, vegetarian options available), the action part begins. You'll kayak into Dark Cave's mouth wearing a life jacket, zip-line over a turquoise river (weight between 40 and 90 kg required to use the line, if you don't meet that, you kayak instead), swim inside the cave, and descend into the mud baths deep in the cave where the mud is buoyant enough to float in. A mining helmet with a head torch is yours for the dark sections, so you're not relying on a guide's light. The guide handles the logistics and safety. You handle the paddle, the zip-line harness, and the choice of how deep into each activity you go. By 4:00 PM you're heading back to your hotel, arriving by 5:00 PM.

Bring swimwear and a towel: lockers for your belongings are provided at Dark Cave with a 50,000 VND deposit (refunded when you return the key). Children under 1.3 m tall are not recommended for the mud bath because of the depth and difficulty moving through it. The group stays small, and an air-conditioned vehicle handles the transport between sites. Bottled water is included throughout the day.

Can I do the zip-line if I'm heavier or lighter than average?

The zip-line over the turquoise river requires you to weigh between 40 and 90 kg. No exceptions. If you fall outside that range, you kayak to the mouth of the cave instead, so you still get into Dark Cave by water.

What's the difference between Paradise Cave and Dark Cave?

Paradise Cave is the longest dry cave in Asia. You walk through it on wooden bridges to see stalactites and stalagmites, with jungle views from the entrance. Dark Cave is where the action happens: you kayak in, zip-line, swim, and soak in mud baths inside the cave itself.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

Life jackets are provided for swimming in Dark Cave, and the guide is with you. The swimming sections are not long distances. The activity is more about moving through the cave by water than about endurance.

What time does the day end and when do I get back to my hotel?

The tour departs Dark Cave at 4:00 PM and drops you at your hotel by 5:00 PM. Pickup starts at 7:30 AM from Dong Hoi or 8:45 AM from Phong Nha, so plan for a full 9-hour day.
