The Experience

The tour picks you up at your hotel at 4 PM and heads into the Old Town as the sun sets—the exact moment the street vendors start their business and the heat of the day lifts. Walking through the alleys and markets at dusk means you avoid the midday crowds and arrive when the food scene is actually happening. The guide leads you through local cafes, food stalls and restaurants at the heart of the historic quarter, moving at a pace that lets you stop, eat and talk with vendors instead of rushing past.

The menu unfolds across the evening: banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich), white rose dumplings, wonton, cao lau noodles, chicken rice, crispy rice pancake, spring roll, and BBQ pork rolled with rice paper and fresh herbs served with soya dipping sauce. Balut egg is offered as an optional addition if you want to push further into local tastes. Each stop is a real vendor or small restaurant, not a tourist setup, so you're eating what locals eat at this hour. Water and one beer come with the tour; everything else on the menu is included.

At 8 PM the tour ends at a public forum where you join in Bai Choi—Vietnam's version of bingo—before heading back. Taxis are a five-minute walk away, or you can stay and wander Hoi An by night on your own. The tour runs with a minimum of two people and requires an English-speaking guide; children from age one are welcome, though they'll need to sit on an adult's lap.
