The experience

The jeep picks you up at your hotel lobby at 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. for a safety briefing and route overview. From there you head into the Old Quarter, where the first stop is a local eatery known for banh cuon, steamed rolled cake, and you watch the skilled chef demonstrate how the ingredients come together before you eat. The ride then weaves through streets lit by colorful lanterns and decorative lights, following the Red River bank to take in the night views of Hanoi.

The second stage takes you to a family-run restaurant for bun cha, grilled pork with vermicelli noodles. A jeep ride over to West Lake lets you see the contrast between centuries-old architecture on one side and modern skylines on the other. Then you head to Ngu Xa village to try freshly grilled seafood, a Hanoian version of pho, banana salads and other traditional Vietnamese dishes.
