The experience

Your guide meets you at the entrance gate of Chan May or Tien Sa port with your name on a board, then transfers you by private car to Ba Na Hills. The cable car ride itself is the draw: it's the longest single-wire cable car in Southeast Asia, and it climbs to a mountain that sits at 1,414 meters above sea level. The altitude means the climate shifts through four seasons in a single day (spring in the morning, summer at noon, autumn in the afternoon, winter at night), so the air cools noticeably as you ascend.

Once at the top, you walk to the Golden Bridge, a 148.6-meter span with eight sections that appears to be held aloft by two giant Buddha hands carved from stone. From there, the tour moves through le Jardin d'Amour, which consists of nine separate gardens, and descends into the Debay Wine Cellar, a French-built structure that survives from the 1920s resort era. The French Village, a reconstructed complex of colonial-era buildings, offers photo stops and a sense of the settlement that once drew wealthy Vietnamese and French families to this cooler mountain retreat. Lunch is a buffet served at a restaurant on-site.
