The Experience

The first thing that hit me was the cool air — not cold, just enough to make me zip up my jacket as we stepped off the bus at Ba Na Hills. Our guide, Hien, grinned and handed out bottled water before leading us to the cable car. I’d seen photos of this place, but floating above thick jungle in that glass cabin felt unreal. You could hear birds somewhere below, and every so often the clouds would swallow us for a second. Hien pointed out a cluster of red roofs far off — “That’s French Village,” she said, like it was totally normal to have a medieval French town on a Vietnamese mountaintop.

I’ll be honest: I came for the Golden Bridge. It’s one of those things you see online and wonder if it’s actually real. Up close, those giant stone hands look even stranger — mossy and cracked, like they’ve been there forever (though Hien laughed when I asked; “Only since 2018!”). The bridge itself was packed with people taking selfies, but somehow it didn’t ruin it for me. Maybe it was the mist rolling in or just the weirdness of standing in someone’s palm looking out over endless green. I tried to say “Cầu Vàng” properly and got it wrong — Hien smiled anyway.

After wandering through French Village (the bakery smell is no joke), we had time to mess around in Fantasy Park. Not really my thing but watching kids race each other on arcade games made me smile. Lunch was a buffet — lots of options, even veggie stuff — and honestly better than I expected for a big group tour. There was this ginger fish dish I’m still thinking about now. We visited Linh Ung Pagoda too; quiet except for wind chimes and someone burning incense nearby.

By late afternoon my legs were tired but I didn’t really want to leave yet. The ride back down felt slower somehow — maybe just trying to hold onto that view a little longer before heading back into Da Nang traffic.
