Da Nang Cooking Class with Market Trip: Make 5 Dishes
Shop the market, then cook five dishes you eat together
A four-hour cooking class in Da Nang where you shop a local market for ingredients, return to the kitchen, and make five Vietnamese specialties: banh xeo, bun bo Hue, hoian fresh rolls, young jackfruit salad and avocado ice cream. The class includes lunch, dinner and coffee or tea; vegetarian and vegan versions are available for most dishes, and children from age four are welcome.
The Experience
The class starts with a market trip. You meet at 07 Nguyen Ba Lan street fifteen minutes before the session begins, then walk to a nearby market with your instructor. The point is not just to buy—it's to understand what you're looking at: where each ingredient comes from, what it costs, what grows in Vietnam and what you might substitute if you cook these dishes at home. That knowledge shapes the cooking that follows.
Back in the kitchen, you make five dishes from scratch. Banh xeo is the sizzling pancake—crispy, filled with beef and shrimp (or vegetables), folded and eaten with fresh herbs. Bun bo Hue is the beef noodle soup, served Hue style or vegetarian. Hoian fresh rolls come wrapped in rice paper with pork and shrimp. Young jackfruit salad is lighter, a salad built around the fruit's mild, slightly sweet texture. Avocado ice cream closes the meal. Your instructor teaches the technique for each one, answers questions as you work, and stays hands-on throughout. The class runs four hours, which gives you time to move without rushing.
You eat what you cook together, with homemade rice vodka on the table. At the end, you receive a cookbook and a certificate. The class is offered in English and Korean, and the kitchen is wheelchair accessible.

Is this one for you?You do the cooking yourself with live instruction, so this suits anyone who wants to learn the technique and take the recipes home, not just taste the food. The market trip at the start is what makes the class different from a cooking demo—you understand the ingredients before you use them, which changes how you'll cook these dishes later.

What five dishes do I actually make in the Da Nang cooking class?
You make banh xeo (sizzling pancake with beef and shrimp or vegetarian), bun bo Hue (beef noodle soup or vegetarian version), hoian fresh rolls with pork and shrimp, young jackfruit salad, and avocado ice cream. All five are cooked from scratch during the class.
Do I shop for the ingredients myself, or are they already there?
You shop the local market at the start of the class with your instructor, who explains what each ingredient is, where it comes from and what you might use instead if you're cooking at home. That market trip is part of the class, not something you do separately.
Is lunch or dinner included, or do I bring my own food?
Both lunch and dinner are included—you eat the five dishes you cook together as a group, with coffee or tea as well. Homemade rice vodka is also on the table.
Can I do this class if I'm vegetarian or vegan?
Yes. Most of the five dishes have vegetarian or vegan versions: banh xeo, bun bo Hue and the fresh rolls can all be made without meat. Mention your dietary needs in the special request field when you book, and the instructor will adjust the recipes.
How long is the whole class, and what time does it start?
The class runs four hours total. You arrive fifteen minutes early at the meeting point on Nguyen Ba Lan street, then the market trip and cooking begin. The instructor teaches in English or Korean.
Can I bring children, or is this class for adults only?
Children are welcome from age four. The class is hands-on cooking, so younger children can participate and learn alongside adults, though they'll need to be comfortable in a kitchen environment for the full four hours.
