Dog Sled and Snowmobile Combo in Willow Alaska
Control the throttle and the reins in one Alaska winter afternoon
A dog sledding and snowmobile combo activity in Willow, Alaska pairs a 2-hour morning run with Iditarod sled dogs and a 3-hour afternoon snowmobile ride over groomed trails and powder. The experience includes all winter gear, lunch between activities, and expert guides who tailor the snowmobile portion to your skill level. Passengers as young as 8 can ride; snowmobile drivers must be 18 with a valid license.
The Experience
You start in the morning running behind a team of Iditarod-trained sled dogs over winter trails beneath Denali. The expert guides who raised and raced these dogs handle the team while you stand on the runners and feel the snow-covered woods open up around you. This part lasts 2 hours and moves at the pace the dogs set—no throttle, no steering, just the sound of paws and the landscape shifting beneath you.
After the dog sled run, you transition to snowmobiles for the afternoon. Whether you've never ridden one or you've done it before, the guides work with you to build confidence on the machine itself, then head out on groomed trails, up and down hills, and through powder. The 3-hour ride is designed so you can tailor the pace and terrain to how comfortable you feel—the guides adjust on the fly. You'll have time to stop for photos and catch your breath along the way.
Lunch happens between the two activities, so you refuel before the snowmobile portion. All essential winter gear comes with the experience: snowsuit, boots, gloves, helmet and goggles. The whole day runs about 6 hours from start to finish, and a live guide in English leads both the dog sled and snowmobile sections.
