The experience
What does it feel like to stand on the runners of a sled while a team of enthusiastic huskies pulls you across snow at surprising speeds? You get 30 minutes of that: the actual ride, the scenery, the sound of the dogs working, the cold air. The guide handles the mushing while you experience the motion and the landscape. Dog sledding was once the only way to travel across Alaska's winter terrain, and the sport still carries that sense of movement through wild country.
After the ride, you step into a cozy yurt to thaw out. Coffee and tea are included, and the guide shares what it takes to lead a dog team: the training, the dogs' temperament, how mushers read the snow and the animals. This is not a sightseeing tour with stops. It is the activity itself, compressed into a half-hour window.
What’s included
- 30-minute dog sled ride behind a team of huskies.
- live English-speaking guide.
- coffee and/or tea in the yurt afterward.
