The experience
One hour gets you from meeting the dogs to riding back into the Alaskan twilight. Before the sled moves, you spend time with your mushing team, Alaskan huskies bred for this work, and take photos in the snowy scenery. Then you take the reins and feel what it takes to lead them: the dogs pull at surprising speeds across the snow, and you experience the power of the team firsthand as they respond to commands and terrain.
Dog mushing was once the primary way people moved across Alaska's frozen landscape, and the sport still demands skill and respect for the animals. Your guide explains what the dogs need, how mushers train them, and why this particular team works together so well. The ride itself is the point. You're not watching a demonstration or sitting passively, but actively steering the sled and managing the team's energy.
After the hour on the trail, you return to the kennel and step into a cozy yurt to thaw out. Coffee and tea are waiting, and the quiet of the Alaskan wilderness settles around you while the dogs rest nearby. The kennel is a 30-minute drive from Fairbanks, so you'll need your own transportation or a pre-arranged ride to get there and back.
What’s included
- Blanket to cover your legs during the ride.
- Coffee and/or tea in the yurt after your adventure.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
Can I actually drive the sled, or do I just ride along?
You mush the team yourself. You're holding the reins and steering the sled, not a passenger. The guide is with you to teach commands and help manage the dogs, but the experience centers on you controlling the team.
What happens if there aren't enough people to run the tour?
The tour requires a minimum of four people, though this rarely happens because it's popular. If the group falls short, you'll be offered a refund or a reschedule to another date.
What should I wear for dog sledding in Fairbanks?
Dress warmly in layers. You're outside in Alaskan winter for an hour, though you'll be moving and generating heat. A blanket is provided to cover your legs on the sled, and hot beverages warm you afterward in the yurt.
Is there a weight limit for this activity?
The maximum weight per person is 250 lbs. Guests weighing over 250 lbs must purchase an additional seat to balance the sled safely.
How do I get to the dog kennel from Fairbanks?
The kennel is about 30 minutes away by car. You'll need to arrange your own transportation or book a separate transfer, as the tour does not include a ride from the city.
