The experience
You start at Amoray Dive Resort, where an instructor walks you through the basics before you ever enter the water. The pool session is where you practice breathing underwater and get comfortable with the gear: no rushing, no pressure. Once you're ready, you head out by boat to the reef itself. This is not a confined-water repeat. You're diving the actual ocean, starting in shallow water with your instructor right there, then exploring deeper at whatever pace feels right.
The reef is where the real dive happens. Tropical fish move through coral formations in clear, warm water, and your instructor guides you through it all, pointing things out and making sure you're comfortable every step. Small group sizes mean you're not one of a crowd. The attention stays on you. Snorkelers can join the same boat trip, so families with mixed comfort levels underwater can still go together.
Everything you need is included: the instruction, the scuba equipment, and snacks on the boat. If you discover you love diving, ask your instructor how to apply this experience toward your Open Water certification. It counts as your first ocean dive toward that credential.
What’s included
- Professional instruction from a live guide.
- use of all scuba equipment.
- snacks on the boat.

Is this one for you?The pool-first approach builds real confidence before you see the reef, so you can focus on the marine life instead of the mechanics. Small groups mean your instructor knows exactly where you are in the learning curve and adjusts the pace to match.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What do I do in the pool before heading to the reef?
In the pool at Amoray Dive Resort, you practice basic skills like breathing underwater and using the equipment so you feel confident before the ocean dive. Your instructor keeps it relaxed and takes as much time as you need.
Will I actually see marine life, or is this mostly just learning?
You'll see tropical fish, coral formations and a variety of marine life on the reef itself. The ocean dive is a real exploration of Key Largo's reefs, not a training-only experience. The marine life is part of what you come for.
Can my family join if some of us don't dive?
Yes. Snorkelers can join the same boat trip, so non-divers in your group can explore the reef at the surface while you dive below. It works well for families with mixed experience levels.
Do I need to have dived before, or any special fitness?
No prior diving experience is required. You do need to be comfortable in water and have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The minimum age is 12. Your instructor will make sure you're ready before heading to the reef.
If I love this, can I work toward a diving certification?
Yes. Your ocean dive can count as the first dive toward your Open Water certification. Ask your instructor how to continue with the full course once you finish this experience.
