The experience
Sand Hollow State Park sits at the edge of the Greater Zion region, and this tour starts near its entrance with a state-of-the-art UTV ready for off-road riding. You climb aboard and navigate through sandy paths, over expansive dunes, and into areas most visitors never reach. The guide handles navigation and stops. You operate the vehicle through terrain that shifts from packed sand to red sandstone trails.
Dinosaur tracks embedded in the rock are the centerpiece: ancient impressions left in stone that you see up close on the trail. The tour also reaches secluded caves and passes Indian petroglyphs carved into the red walls. From the top of Sand Mountain, a 360-degree view opens across the desert: Zion to the north, Hurricane cliffs to the east, the Arizona Strip to the south, and Pine Mountain to the west. The ride takes two hours total, mixing technical sections that demand focus with stretches where the landscape dominates.
A licensed guide rides with you, explaining the geology and history as you move through the park. Helmets and goggles are provided, along with bottled water and ice. The tour accepts children from age 4 and suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. A refundable damage deposit of $1,500 is required at checkout.
