The experience

Three hours splits between two things you do yourself: the UTV ride comes first. After a safety briefing at Sand Hollow State Park, you climb into a two-person vehicle and navigate winding trails, sand dunes and rock crawling over red sandstone. The terrain is rugged (dunes tower overhead and formations demand real steering), but the guide rides with you and the activity suits all fitness levels. You'll see the 360-degree view from the top of the dunes: Zion to the north, Hurricane cliffs to the east, the Arizona Strip south, and Pine Mountain west.

The second half is the rappel. After the ride, you head into a secluded private box canyon where you rappel down the canyon wall. This is not a tour where you watch a guide demonstrate. You're operating the equipment and descending yourself, with the guide managing the rope and your safety. The box canyon is closed to the public otherwise, so this is the part of the day most riders don't get anywhere else near Zion.

Pickup is included and the guide speaks English. Bring a valid driver's license. You'll need it to operate the UTV. A refundable damage deposit of $1,500 is authorized at checkout but held only if damage occurs. Gratuities are separate.
