The experience

Lahaina's beaches draw crowds, but this lesson keeps your group separate from other tourists. You pick the time that works (early morning, mid-morning, or late morning), and show up with just yourself. The instructor handles everything else: a state-of-the-art soft-top board sized for you, a clean rash guard, and reef shoes. The lesson runs 90 minutes and covers water safety first, then proper technique, surfing style, and ocean etiquette. The instructor's job is to get you standing and catching a wave, not to rush through a roster of strangers.

The water work starts with the fundamentals: how to position yourself on the board, how to read the wave, how to time your pop-up. The instructor watches your form and adjusts the cues in real time. Because the group stays between 2 and 6 people, the ratio stays tight: one instructor for every five students, so you're not waiting for your turn or guessing what went wrong. If your group has more than six, a second instructor joins to keep that ratio. By the end of the session, you've caught waves and left the beach as a certified surfer, not as someone who tried.

Bring sunscreen and a towel. Everything else is in the package. Children as young as seven can join, and the lesson works for any fitness level. Infants and small children can stay nearby in a stroller if someone in your group wants to watch.

Groups of up to six stay with one instructor. If your party is larger than six, a second instructor joins to keep the student-to-teacher ratio at 5:1, so everyone still gets personal attention.

Will my group be mixed with other tourists, or do we stay separate?

Your group stays private: the lesson never combines guests from separate parties. If you book for four people, the instructor works with your four for the full 90 minutes.
