Three slot canyons and a river bend, 12 hours from Las Vegas

You're picked up from your Las Vegas hotel and driven to Upper Antelope Canyon, where a Navajo guide walks you through the slot canyon's narrow sandstone passages and explains the geology. After lunch, you visit Horseshoe Bend's 1,000-foot overlook and Lake Powell's viewpoint before returning to Las Vegas in the evening. The tour includes all entry fees, transport, lunch, water, and snacks.

13h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Explore Upper Antelope Canyon with guide
  • View Horseshoe Bend overlook
  • Overlook Lake Powell

The Experience

The van is already rolling out of Las Vegas when most people are still deciding what to wear. You're heading north toward Page, Arizona—about three and a half hours of air-conditioned driving through high desert, and your guide will have texted you the pickup time the day before, so there's no guessing. Water and snacks are already on board. The landscape starts to shift somewhere past Flagstaff: the red rock gets redder, the sky gets bigger, and then you're there.

Upper Antelope Canyon is the first stop, and a Navajo guide meets you at the entrance. This is the slot canyon you've probably seen in photos—the one with light beams cutting through narrow sandstone walls. The Navajo call it "the place where water runs through rocks," and walking through it feels like being inside something that's still being carved. Your guide points out the geology as you move through, and the light changes every few minutes depending on where the sun is. You'll need closed-toe shoes and pants or shorts (no skirts or dresses allowed inside), and cameras are fine but no tripods or selfie sticks. Most people spend about an hour here, moving slowly, stopping to shoot, listening to the guide explain how water shaped the stone.

After lunch—a sandwich (beef, turkey, or veggie), chips, and water—you drive to Horseshoe Bend. It's a short walk from the parking lot to the overlook, and then you're standing 1,000 feet above the Colorado River as it makes a dramatic U-turn below you. Lake Powell spreads out in the distance, a massive blue expanse that looks almost unreal against the rust-colored rock. You get time to walk around, take photos, sit on the edge if you want. The view doesn't need explaining.

The drive back to Las Vegas takes the same three and a half hours, and you'll be dropped at your hotel or pickup location by evening. The whole day is structured around the drive and the stops—you're not arranging transport between sites, not buying tickets at the gate, not deciding when to eat. It's all decided. That's what makes it possible to see three major landmarks in one day without feeling rushed.
